  We were visiting a loved one at the hospital and decided to stop by this bake shop. The first thing we noticed was how dirty the surroundings are. The staff were rather standoffish too and acted like we were disturbing them. We hastily decided to get some pastries and cookies to share with family and friends back at the hospital, but, much to our chagrin, everything we made the mistake of getting was hard, dry and had obviously been left in the oven for too long. Thankfully, several members of the hospital staff overhead us discussing how displeased we were with the bad experience at this place and they recommended that we go a couple of miles in the other direction to a combination bake shop & restaurant called the Butcher Shop. Thank goodness for their timely advice. The Butcher Shop had a really nice assortment of perfectly baked cookies, cakes, candy and fudge. And the employees there treated us like royalty instead of some sort of unwelcome minority group that showed up unexpectedly. I must say that the difference in customer service and quality between the two places was like the difference between night and day.

  I am extremely disgusted with the poor quality of the cookies I got from Kerns. They looked alright in the showcase at first glance, but unfortunately, after I got home and sampled a couple, I noticed they had little flavor and were very brittle, difficult to chew and digest. I also got a mini king cake to share with my partner but it turned out to be rather dry and bland tasting too. Not only that, but everything was quite expensive compared to what the other local bakeries charge. I definitely will not ever bother going back again nor do I recommend that anybody else make the mistake of going there either. It's just not worth the hassle.
